I was born in Senigallia in 1972 and I live and work here in my home town. I completed my secondary studies at l’Istituto Statale d’Arte “Adolfo Apolloni” in Fano majoring in Decorazione Pittorica and Studio di Progettazione, with a detailed focus on wall-decorating for both shop and home interiors. I first achieved my diploma of “Maestro d’Arte” and then received my “Maturità d’Arte Applicata” in 1992. Despite not pursuing tertiary studies, I have always nurtured my interest in art, experimenting and personalizing my largely graphic and graffitist techniques.

For the most part I work on cardboard using pencil/ china/ acrylics and pastels, but I also use other mediums like board and canvas depending on what is needed for best results. My works are quite complex and rich in detail. They usually occupy the entire surface, with every little bit of space shaded. When I work on cardboard I mainly use pencil partnered with black china which for me is an essential color. On board and canvas I use colored acrylics.

I love to depict cityscapes and fantastical warped neighborhoods, with distorted perspective. Eyes and faces often meld together to create surreal images. I am able to express my introspective observations of the world only through my art.

There are two concepts I bare in mind when facing a new project: Disegni Studiati and Disegni Casuali. In the first case the skeleton of the picture forms from my thoughts, and from a study of what I want to represent. From that first picture I then pull out another following the lines to build the work. So a roof of a house ties to the wall of another which in turn becomes a face that interlocks with the picture and goes back to being a house or a tree or an eye until the whole sheet is filled and finished.

In the second case everything changes. I don’t begin with a fixed idea. I work randomly, sketching with my pencil all over the page, in a haphazard way, without stopping or thinking. Once I’ve formed the skeleton I intervene in the individual spaces by coloring them, inserting images and erasing parts that I find to be superfluous. The color does the rest and I obtain a result that I like.

During my works, a figure emerged that I would go on to call Gibas (see “Momento d’Ira”). Gibas is no more than a stylized human form that I then decided to include in other works. He can take on different shapes and colors which I repeat infinitely. I meld the shapes together, move them in a spiraling manner; in other words I manipulate them as I wish. I decided on this name because it’s a nickname that was given to me … Gibas is me.
